"Camping with Ancestors"
I sketched the lines and shapes of a rock face in Zion National Park, Utah, as a guide to exploring composition. Many collections of lines and shapes were unified in the rock and I searched in my placement of color and markings for a unified whole. All this was in the vertical orientation, but in the end I turned the whole on its left side and discovered an order which spoke to me of my connection with time and the elements we all share.
